Plane flights with little ones are never easy. I knew this when planning to fly 4 hours away, and then drive 3 hours to a family gathering for my grandparents 90th birthday party (yes, I come from good genes). My 1 and 3 year olds did not disappoint, and to add insult to injury, the flight was an hour and a 1/2 delayed BOTH WAYS.
But what I remember from this trip, was not the brutal hours spent on the plane, the apologies made to those around me, the plethora of snacks, toys and distractions I brought with me. What I remember is the fabulous days I spent with my parents and both brothers and their families. What I remember is the feeling of love I felt as my grandfather sat at the head of this huge table with a gleam in his eye and my grandmother with a huge smile. What I will always remember is the warmth I felt for this amazing group of people that I am blessed to call my extended family. And the shear luck that we had to get everyone there, present, in the moment.
Thanks mom for putting together a wonderful event, my sister-in-law for a great photo album and my family for making the day one for the memory books! I look forward to the next time we are all together.
Much love.
